Workout Wednesday – Let’s Get that Heart Rate UP!
Happy #WorkoutWednesday Winnipeg! We all know that exercise is important and that it’s something that we should be focusing on doing multiple times a week. But why is exercise so great? And what’s the best type of exercise for you?
There are many benefits to exercising regularly. These benefits include:
It’s good for you heart
Lowers your risk of developing type 2 diabetes
Improves brain function
Helps to maintain a healthy weight
Improves muscle strength
And so much more…
High Intensity Interval Training (or HIIT) is an amazing workout that will get your heart pumping! The great things about HIIT is that you can work out in a minimal amount of time (we’re talking 4-15 minutes), you can do it anywhere (and little to no equipment is needed), will help to increase your metabolism, helps you burn more fat, and will help you to lose weight (not muscle). The way this type of workout works is that you’re alternating between high intensity bursts of exercise (15-60 seconds) and less-intense activity or rest. You can do any type of exercise you want, just remember to keep the intensity up but not at the expense of proper form.
Here’s a couple different routines you can try out! – Each exercise will be performed for 20 seconds then 20 second rest. – Each exercise will be done 3 times in a row.
Running in place | Knee Push up’s/Push up’s | Jumping jacks | Walking lunges | Paddling/Plank | ½ Squats/Squats
— OR –
High knees | Military Push up’s/Spiderman Push up’s | Squat Jacks | Split squats | Plank | Squats/Jump squats
Enjoy your workout!
